Introduction to Leatherwork Short Course - one-to-one (or one-to-two):
The ‘Introduction to Leatherwork’ course equips the student with the essential technical skills and foundational knowledge of leather crafting, offering a skillset base that can be expanded through independent practice and experimentation, or via additional tuition.
This one-to-one (or one-to-two for couples / two people) short introduction course provides background knowledge of the craft and explores a range of practical leather craft skills, allowing the student to try the tools and techniques on sample leather during the session.
With an emphasis on developing skills that the student can then practice independently, this short introduction course focuses on knowledge and technique over producing a 'finished' product and so the student will end the course with some sample pieces of the leatherwork techniques they have practised during the session.
Aimed at those with limited or no prior experience of working with leather, the course introduces a fairly broad range of topics, covered to an appropriate depth (for a short introduction course), including;
- Leather types, selection and suitability for purpose.
- An introduction to designing leather goods.
- Leatherworking tools & equipment.
- Health & safety when working leather.
- Practical leatherwork skills (including: Marking out, cutting, punching, setting rivets, hand sewing leather, edge treatments and leather finishes.)
The 'Introduction to Leatherwork' short course is ideal for those eager to learn a new skill or explore the hands-on aspects of leatherworking under guidance and without the upfront investment in tools and equipment.
This short course includes a written resource pack for student(s) to take home, featuring detailed tool and equipment lists, supply recommendations, and additional resources for further learning.
Duration: 2 hrs 30 mins.
Location: Courses will usually be conducted from a hired studio space in Scottow, Norwich, NR10.
Price: £110 for one-to-one or £160 for one-to-two (couple/two people). Students must be over 18. For Terms see bottom of page.
Progression Courses / Bespoke Tuition:
I can offer progression courses on certain topics that can progress foundation leather working skills to a more advanced level. Tuition is bespoke and tailored to suit the student's specific requirements and aspirations. Perfect for students wishing to learn more about a specific process or aspect of leather craft or those looking to refine technical skills, bespoke tuition is of particular benefit to those wishing to improve their leathercraft hobby or wishing to undertake leatherwork at a semi-professional or professional level.
Bespoke tuition pricing is by quotation.
